What is Brewer's Yeast?
Brewer's yeast is one of the best sources of natural B vitamins which can help with aiding digestion, supporting of the nervous system and keeping the skin, hair, eyes, mouth, and liver healthy.
Yeast is also a good source of protein for dogs - it contains all nine of the essential amino acids needed by dogs. We include it in our Akela Fish Feast recipe.
What if my dog is allergic to yeast?
Canine allergies to nutritional yeast are rare, although it may sometimes be the case that a dog reacts adversely to it. More commonly the reaction is to the systemic type of yeast growing on the skin or ears.
Unless he/she is known to be allergic to nutritional yeast (which is the same as brewers yeast but not the same as the yeast growing in ears etc) there is not usually any reason why they cannot eat a food which contains yeast.
If your dog is one of the rare ones to be allergic to Brewers Yeast we advise feeding any of our raw/wet foods or our Suffolk Duck, Scottish Salmon or Free Range Chicken dry kibble recipes as they do not contain Brewers Yeast or White Potato.
Adding Apple Cider Vinegar and Oregano Oil may also help. Oregano Oil is strong and only a tiny amount should be used in diluted form. We would recommend consulting your nearest homeopathic veterinarian.
