Taurine is an amino acid naturally found in meat and fish. Our foods are high in taurine-rich ingredients, so dogs obtain plenty from their diet.
In our cat foods, taurine is added due to regulatory requirements, as cats cannot synthesise taurine themselves. Dogs, however, can make taurine from other amino acids such as methionine and cysteine, so it isn’t a required nutrient under the FEDIAF dog food guidelines.
Because of this, routine taurine testing isn’t necessary when a diet is correctly balanced for total protein and sulfur amino acids, which we confirm through regular laboratory analysis of our ingredients and finished foods.
Our recipes are naturally rich in taurine due to their high meat and fish content and are formulated to exceed all FEDIAF nutritional standards for adult dogs. Where needed, we can provide indicative taurine levels from formulation data, but direct testing is not a regulatory or nutritional requirement for complete dog foods.
