The majority of dogs do not require a low-fat diet. Our diets are relatively high in fat and high in protein to mirror a natural diet (although less needs to be fed so the overall levels consumed aren't excessive). Dogs who have been diagnosed with pancreatitis require a low-fat diet. We can offer an alternative light diet (8% fat) from our sister brand, Country Kibble, which is more suited to dogs with diagnosed pancreatitis.
Here's some helpful advice from AllAboutDogFood:
"Pancreatic digestive enzyme supplements have been reported to help some dogs with pancreatitis while fish body oils (such as salmon oil or EPA oil but not cod liver oil), can help to lower blood lipid levels which may reduce the workload on the pancreas.
Probiotics and prebiotics can help with digestion and may aid in the management of pancreatitis."
Our Scottish Salmon dry kibble recipe contains the highest level of FOS pre-biotic and also contains salmon oil and pro-biotic. Whilst it is relatively high in oil and fat content, a high proportion of this is omega 3.
Our British Beef and British Duck recipes contain the lowest level of fat in our raw food range at just over 10%, whilst also including FOS pre-biotic.
As with all medical conditions, please consult your vet as your first port of call. Akela is not designed to treat any medical conditions but our food may help with the symptoms.
