Is Akela suitable to feed to my puppy? Chicken or Salmon, yes

Yes, for puppies we recommend our bespoke Free-Range Chicken and Scottish Salmon recipes. These British made, grain-free recipes contain 80% Chicken/Salmon respectively and 20% fruit, veg and botanicals. Packed full of all the goodness you'd expect from delicious freshly prepared chicken/salmon, they're extremely tasty, easy to digest and gentle on sensitive tummies. Both recipes contain all the nutrients your puppy needs for a complete nutritionally balanced diet. The recipes are hypoallergenic and free from artificial flavours, colours and preservatives. 

For smaller breed puppies under 10Kg, our Small Paws kibble size is most appropriate (labelled Puppy Small Paws). For larger breed puppies over ~10Kg in weight then our Medium Paws kibble size is more appropriate (we don't label it Puppy but the recipe is the same, the kibble is just larger). They can stay on the same recipe throughout their lifetime, though we would recommend alternating flavours (allergy dependent).

Our Scottish Salmon recipe also contains the highest levels of Omega 3 (4.7%) in our dry kibble range. The three main omega-3 fatty acids are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). DHA is essential for the growth and functional development of the brain which is essential for young dogs. Omega 3 fatty acids contain essential nutrients which benefit your puppy's overall health including skin and coat condition, heart health and general wellbeing.

For those wishing to stick to a fish-free diet and still wanting to achieve similar levels of Omega 3, we would recommend supplementing our Free-Range Chicken recipe with linseed oil or salmon oil if fish isn't a problem (we sell both separately in 500ml, 1L and 5L bottles).

Please note that the daily feeding amount of Akela can vary considerably from other brands - most of our customers find that they feed far less Akela due to the quality of the ingredients, have less waste to pick up and save money. We recommend initially feeding 20% less than suggested on our feeding guide, to aid the transition and monitoring their weight to adjust accordingly.
